What are these itchy red bumps?

So originally this started out with my itching and at the time that's all I thought it was. Then bumps started to appear on them and it spread from my right side to my left side and now it seems to have gone even further. After a few days I noticed a little red bumpy patch on my right rib. Nothing too crazy, just a few itchy red bumps. Then I noticed a few more on my chest, then 2 or 3 sporadically on my stomach and now they're on almost every part of my body with no real pattern or consistency to them. I have a couple on my back in places I can't even reach, a couple on my thighs, and a patch of about 4 or 5 on my left hip. I even have them on my face, jaw line and even one on my right ear! They range in size from a large mosquito bite on my legs, to small pimple like bumps on my chest and rib. They also very in how far apart each bump is either being one solitary bump, or a couple of them right on top of one another to a close knit patch that is about two inches in diameter. I share everything with my boyfriend and none of this seems to be effecting him aside from my being itchy and miserable. I've been using Cortizone and I haven't changed anything as far as soaps, detergents, perfumes or clothing materials are concerned. I understand allergies can develop over time whether or not those things have been changed, but I see no rhyme or reason to my itchy red bumps. I just want to know if this is something that I can take care of at home or if I need medication for it because I'm losing my mind with all this itching.
