CAN ANYONE TELL ME IF THERE IS A MEDICAL EXEMPTION FROM WEARING A SEATBELT IN CANADA?

I can answer your question in regards to Ontario. If you can get a doctor to give you a letter that says that you have a medical condition that wearing a seatbelt would make worse or cause a problem if you had an accident, then you could produce it to an officer that stops you. The most common one is a woman in an advanced stage of pregnancy. Claustrophobia, great discomfort, or something like that are *not* allowable exceptions. Not many doctors will provide those letters because that would put them in a bad legal position if you got into an accident and it was proven that a seatbelt might have kept you from getting so seriously hurt. Check with you own province dept. of motor vehicles (ministry of transportation?) or call the local police and ask. Good luck!!
